River Cable High Speed HDMI cables now also feature an available dedicated data channel, known as the HDMI Ethernet Channel (HEC), for device networking. For the first time, IP-based ethernet applications can be accessed via the HDMI cable if both devices linked by the cable are HDMI Ethernet Channel-enabled. Previously, IP-based applications between equipment required Cat5 cables separately connected to the home network.
River Cable High Speed HDMI cables also feature the new Audio Return Channel (ARC) capability found in HDMI specification 1.4. This innovation allows for upstream audio over the HDMI cable for the first time, in addition to downstream audio that has always been a benefit of HDMI connection. For example, TV's with built-in tuners can now send audio from the tuner upstream to your A/V receiver or surround audio controller. Previously, audio from your TV with built-in tuner had to be sent to your receiver over a separate S/PDIF or Toslink cable. Note: HDMI Audio Return Channel functionality is dependent upon both devices having Audio Return Channel-enabled HDMI ports.
